Blue Monday may be a myth but the January blue are totally real and something we all struggle with. This time of year, self care couldn’t be more important and finding the time to spend on yourself can be tricky. So to help look after yourself this January, try adding some of our top 5 minute self care into your routine!

Tip no.1 Get Cosy with Your Favourite Candle.

Take a second and light your favourite scented candle. This one may seem simple but baby steps to a self care routine are important – nothing smells more comforting than lighting a candle and watching it flicker slowly for a minute or two. These gorgeous bay and rosemary tealights from St Eval smell like a Sunday spend making yummy food – mmm.

Tip no.2 Brew a Proper Cup of Your Favourite Tea.

Take the time to properly brew a good cuppa. Get out the tea strainer and your favourite mug and take 5 minutes to properly brew your cuppa. There’s something so relaxing about watching a proper cuppa brew into being something warm and delicious, I like to accompany this one with cake – yum! This vanilla rooibos tea from The Tea Makers of London is the perfect comforting cuppa on a cold day.

Tip no.3 Plan Your Favourite Meals.

When you’re feeling low, good food can make all the difference. Take 5 minutes to plan out your meals or flick through your favourite cook book and choose something hearty and comforting. When I feel low I love setting the time aside to choose and make my favourite meal – making it an occasion once a week to cook something you truly enjoy can really bring your mood up.

Tip no.4 Apply Your Favourite Scented Lotion.

My nightly routine always involves applying a good moisturiser. Taking 5 minutes to moisturise is not just good for your skin but gives a fresh feeling – bonus points if its a scent you love! With sensitive skin I find it tough to get a moisturiser that doesn’t harm my skin but the wild fig and saffron lotion from Plum and Ashby not only smells amazing but is kind to skin – yum!

Take 5 minutes to get creative. Whether through drawing, writing, photography, music or any other creative outlet, spending 5 minutes to be creative helps to take the stress away. When stressed, going on a photo walk helps take my mind off whatever I am stressing about – even if only for a minute. These brush markers from Monograph are perfect for letting your creativity flow!
