No.1: Levitating Moon Lamp

The moon lamp from Gingko is a firm favourite with all our customers. Both kids and adults stop in their tracks when they see it is floating and try to work out how it is doing it – we tend to says it is either magic or magnets! The moon floats using magnetic levitation and the bulb in the light is powered by an induced current which means there is nothing connecting the light to the base. It must be magic!. What does Lorna particularly like about it?

Gingko Smart Moon Lamp

“I am interested in Astrology and Astonomy, the planets in general and especially the moon. I love the fact that this one is floating and it is really atmospheric.”

The Dydahl Co Hexacoralla Print

No.2: Ernst Haekel Hexacoralla Print from The Dybdahl Co

(RA1975). Lorna is a practicing artist herself, like many of our staff, and loves this print from Ernst Haekel. Although the art work is from the 19th Century it looks surprisingly modern in this print, remastered by Henrick Dybdahl. The black and white high contrast image is bold and exciting. Lorna says

“This print by Ernst Haeckel is similar in style to my own artistic practice. I like to work with contrasting colours and black and white especially and find this really dark and brooding as an image.”

No.3: Ooty Black, Curved Candlestick from Nkuku

New in to the shop, this striking candlestick from Nkuku would be a talking point in any home. It has a tactile shape and, with its signature black, rough textured finish, is reminiscent of a piece of sculpture. Lorna loves this sculptural feel to it.

Nkuku Ooty Candlestick Black

“Its bold shape and strong colour is what attracted me to it. I like statement pieces and think this resembles something similar to a deity, something spiritual.”

Calathea Ornata

No.4: Calathea

This Calathea Ornata is a firm favourite with customers and staff alike. The leaves have a pink stripe against a dark green background and many customers come in the shop asking if they’re real as the lines almost look painted on – perhaps that’s why artist Lorna likes them. She says

“This has such a richness in colour with its dark green leaves and deep red underside. It’s really playful with the stripes and it makes an interesting texture.”

No.5: Lemon Coffee Dunkers

Lorna’s final choice was chosen as we had a pack of these gorgeous biscuits open in the staff room for break time. Lorna loved them, particularly when paired with her favourite tea.

I like floral flavours and these zesty Lemon Coffee Dunkers are perfect with a cup of green or jasmine tea.
