Are staff make Fig1 and awesome place to work and we love to hear from them on our blog. Meet Katie – part time figgie, part-time illustrator, all round fabulous person!

Hi, I’m Katie!

Alongside being a part-time figgie, I am also an illustrator who has a passion for bright colours, intricate patterns and printmaking. I studied Illustration at university in Cardiff which has ignited my flare for surface pattern design for homeware and giftware products, making Fig1 the ideal place to work! I feel very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful Bristol independent, being born in Bristol myself, and being in favour of supporting independent artists and businesses.

No.1: Flower Market Print

Being an illustrator, Katie is drawn to all things patterned and colourful so it’s no wonder she loves some of the artwork in the shop, including these retro posters.

The bold colours and shapes in this beautiful giclee print make me feel really happy and remind me of summer!

No.2: Coco Chocolatier Chocolate

Proving that chocolate can be a work of art, Coco Chocolatier have always taken independent designers and illustrators to help with their packaging – here’s why Katie loves their range!

The lovely packaging is designed by a range of artists worldwide and are unique to each flavour. The products are made sustainably and from 100% natural ingredients so they taste amazing too.

No.3: Rice Melamine

Such a firm favourite with staff and customers alike, it’s no wonder Katie is a Rice fan.

The Rice melamine range is simply stunning. Being pattern obsessed, these products instantly caught my eye with their intricate designs and bright colours. The material is also great for someone who is clumsy like me as they won’t break easily!

No. 4: Rug in Multi-Pastel Colours by Rice

Proving that Fig1 is the right place for Katie, she’s found another colourful, patterned piece for her 4th favourite find in the shop!

This rug is absolutely gorgeous. I love the diamond pattern with the pastel colours, it contrasts nicely with the plain background and makes the design really unique.

No.5: Esmie Stationary

Japan has had so much influence on print and pattern in this country. We’ve been obsessed with it for hundreds of years and no wonder. These British made notebooks utilise Japanese paper. Katie, of course, loves them.

The Esmie products are visually stunning. The quality in the designs and the products themselves are unmatched, the colourful intricate patterns are just so beautiful and full of life! They are definitely my favourite products in the whole store!
