One of the things Luke and I treasure about running a small business is the ability to make decisions on what is important to us. Humanitarian causes are high on our list and we have been looking for ways to support refugees for a while. The current humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is the latest in a wave of world events that will be adding to the number of people who need to seek refuge away from home.

One of the advantages of being a small business is the ability to respond quickly to things. At Fig1 we’ve put together a fundraising package to help with the growing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and the growing refugee crisis in the world. Although we’re small, we believe we can all do something.

Prints for the Ukraine

Sunflowers are the national flower of the Ukraine. We’ve secured some Sunflower prints from our friends at Liljebergs and a local Artist Anna Harley which we can sell entirely for the DEC Ukraine appeal. 100% of the money you pay for these prints will be treated as a charity donation to the DEC Humanitarian fund for Ukraine appeal. They make a beautiful present for Mother’s Day where you get to give a gift at the same time as making a donation to the crisis so we’d love to sell as many as possible.

Our Additional Mother’s Day Donation

Mother’s day is a day when we celebrate the women in our lives who look after, care for and nurture us. At a time when Mothers all over the world are going through incredibly hard journeys to look after their Children, we’d like to give something back to families less fortunate than ours. Over the Mother’s Day weekend we will be donating 20% of our takings to 2 charities – the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and Bristol Refugee Rights. Bristol Refugee Rights is a charity working with refugees on the ground in Bristol where Fig1 is based – they are a small hands-on charity who work tirelessly to help refugees feel welcome in our community here and work with refugees from all over the world. Our donation to these charities will be 20% of our total takings in both shops and our online shop on 26th March 2022 and 27th March 2022, split evenly between the 2 charities.

Small Family Business

My sister runs a Community Choir and they are also raising money with an Easter Concert for Bristol Refugee Rights. They will be joining us to sing a few songs at both our shops on Saturday 26th March to help promote their concert and to shake a tin for Bristol Refugee Rights – check out the details of the Break Out Voices concert here – they’re great fun to watch so pop along on 8th April or watch this space for more details of their micro-concerts at a Fig1!
